You need to first to become a RN (Registered Nurse) and then you can take 2 year graduate courses to get your MSN (Masters of Science in Nursing). It may seem like a lot, but it is worth it in the long run. You can make anywhere from $26 to $100 an hour to practice as a forensic nurse. That is a great paying and rewarding career. If you get bored easily and you are looking for something new and exciting, this may be the perfect career for you. You can choose from many exciting job opportunities. A few of the career paths you can choose from are; Correctional nursing, Sexual assault nursing, Gerontology specialization, Nurse coroner/death investigation, Legal nurse consulting, and Community education. In correctional nursing, This is work in assessing patient health problems and needs, developing and implementing nursing care plans, and maintaining medical records. This employee administers nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent or disabled patients. The incumbent may advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. This work may also include inspecting facilities and/or evaluating or providing consultation on health care programs, services or policies. (Geiman, D., OBrien, P. 2008). Working in the prison system could be very interesting. You would have a variety of atmospheres, if you are the type of person that gets bored easily. Sexual Assault Nursing, you have the opportunity to work in the emergency rooms in hospitals. You are responsible for doing examinations and collecting evidence in sexual assault cases and any kind of child abuse cases. This requires a lot of close attention to detail. When you are doing the triage on a patient, you need to make sure you get the most accurate information. You may be required to collect sexual assault kits, fingerprints, hair samples, take pictures, and much more. This would be good for someone that has a lot of patience. It can take several hours to gather all the information that may be needed for the case. Gerontology Specialization, Working with an older population requires special skills, including an understanding of biological, epidemiological, social, and psychological issues related to aging, and the care and services that can promote productive aging. Our curriculum is designed to help professionals from a wide range of occupations develop the skills they need to work with an aging population. (Aging, 2007). In this career, you are responsible for determining and investigation nursing home negligence. You would be that person that has to gather evidence and make sure people are not being abused while being cared for in the nursing homes. You would also be responsible for gathering evidence in any suspicious death cases. This also would require a lot of time and patience. You would also have to pay attention to detail and be able to collect evidence if needed. â€Å"Nurses considering the DI (Death Investigation) role must possess specific skills and knowledge necessary to conduct an effective and thorough death investigation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to communicate with families and agency officials with varying levels of education and communication skills. Emotional reactions of survivors may hinder effective communication during notification of a death. Investigators must be able to work with clients who are distraught with grief and guilt, and sometimes with the intention of deception. The FNDI must be prepared to use deductive and inductive reasoning skills to quickly and accurately assess the situation, estimate safety factors, and operate within any limitations set by the situation.† (Meliss Vessier-Batchen, 2003) This field would not be recommended if you cannot handle a lot of stress and be able to hold your feeling aside. With al l aspects of the medical field, you can’t let your feeling get in the way of any decisions or evidence collected. Legal nurse consulting includes; gathering and investigating court cases that involve abuse, negligence, malpractice, and so on. You are basically the eyes and ears of the case. You are the responsible party that has to get all the information that is needed to solve the case. Community Education deals with educating families, employees, and employers. They are responsible for explaining how things are done, how evidence is gathered, how to properly gather evidence, how to cope with abuse, etc. If you good with public communication this may be the perfect career path for you. Forensic Nursing has a lot of different paths to choose from. If you have an interest in helping solve cases and helping families, this is a good field to get into. There would be never a dull moment as a nurse. The positive side of being a forensic nurse is not only the pay, but the gratification that you get when you know you are the one who helped someone in their time of need. You would feel like you were making a difference in someone’s life. What if you were that person that got enough evidence to make that case? Wouldn’t that make you feel good about yourself and your job? What if you cracked the case in a child abuse case and now that child is no longer in an abusive home. They will have you to thank for making sure they are taken care of. The pay is very good though. Just think making about $60,000 a year or more based on your prior experience. If you like taking care of people nursing alone is a great profession to be in. This world will always need some kind of nurse. This will be a career that will never diminish. Even if you get tired of the forensic part you can always go into just the nursing side. You can take care of people. Make sure they have what they need. Help someone get better or just be that person by their side if they are passing. Show that you are compassionate and caring. Nursing takes a special kind of person. You have to have a lot of time and plenty of patience. If you don’t have either then this is not the career path that you want to choose. These people are sick, hurt or even dying. They need someone to take care of them since they can’t care for themselves. If you have a good heart and you want to make a difference in someone’s life then choose this as your career path. If you are not interested in the nursing part you still have the forensic side, and that also opens many career opportunities for you. Sometimes nursing can burn you out and you need a break. Being a crime scene analyst or working with an attorney could be for you. Collecting forensic evidence or even working in the lab may grab your attention too. This is just an exciting field and the opportunities are just endless. Now there is always a downside to being a forensic nurse. This field takes a lot of your time. You may work 8-16 hour shifts. You could even have to work a full 24 hour shift. Depending on what the case you are working on requires. It also depends on what career path you chose. Another factor is location. Sometimes your job may require that you relocate to a bigger city in another state. Are you willing to give up your life and start over for your job? You need to have a strong stomach and be able to handle the sight of blood, guts, bones and more. This occupation is not for the weak hearted. You have to be prepared mentally too. This kind of job can take a wear and tear on your mind and body. Sometimes this job can drive you crazy. You need to be mentally able to do this. Before you choose what you are going to do as far as your career, make sure you weigh the pros and cons of the job first. You don’t want to end up in a job that you are going to end up hating or regretting for the rest of your life, do you? Make sure you look at all aspects of your career, research that job possibilities, salary and requirements. The schooling takes a lot of time and patience. In the long run, it does payoff. This application is that of fiber optics. To understand fiber optics in its application to communications, one must first have an understanding of the technology itself. The transmission of light through thin fibers of glass or plastic is the basis of the branch of physics known as fiber optics. Capable of transmitting light over more than one hundred and fifty miles, these fibers are made of either pure glass or plastic. Each fiber is composed of two parts, the core and the cladding. Optical fibers vary in thickness from hair size (0.001 inch) in diameter and up. The core is composed of the glass or plastic and does the actual transmission of data. The core is typically covered in a sheath referred to as cladding. However, if the cell does not have the capacity to use all the pyruvate produced, it will be changed chemically to lactate. Some cells have a large capacity to use pyruvate for aerobic energy while others have very little. With training, many cells can adapt to use more pyruvate and, thus, produce less lactate. Lactate is present in our system at rest and as we go about our every day activities, although at low levels. However, as exercise or work activity increases in intensity, large amounts of pyruvate are produced very quickly. Because pyruvate can be produced quickly, not all of it may be used for aerobic energy. The surplus pyruvate will turn into lactate. This is why lactate is such a significant marker for training. When it is produced, it is a sign that aerobic energy is limited during the activity. There is a different reason why more lactate is produced as exercise intensity increases. As exercise increases, extra muscle fibers will be recruited. These fibers are used infrequently at rest or in light activity. Fast twitch fibers are not very good at turning pyruvate into aerobic energy. Hence, a lot of this pyruvate turns into lactate. Lactate is a major metabolic intermediate. Its fate depends on the conditions of the cell. In aerobic oxidation of glucose, glucose is converted to pyruvate, which is then converted to acetylSCoA (or AcetylCoA), a high-energy thioester. Under anaerobic conditions, pyruvate is reduced to lactate to regenerate the NAD + needed in Step 6 of glycolysis to keep glycolysis pathway going. 3. Which enzyme is responsible for lactate production Write out the equation for this reaction. Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme responsible for lactate production, which is present in varieties or organisms including plants and animals. When I transferred there from Monroe College, I experience its strong reputation and I felt a smooth transition because of its accessible course schedules. It offers a wide array of information and facilities that helps in cultivating the knowledge to promising students like me. I believe that it is important to stay in this university as a sign of loyalty and integrity. In addition I have learned so much from my professors and classmates especially when it comes to confidence and moral boost. After completing my master’s degree, I am planning to go back to the United States Virgin Islands. Stein 2 Certain Individuals that lived in the period of time know as the Age of Reason discovered many knew inventions and advancements to improve the quality of life. When experimented with, these advantages brought forth knew ideas to extraordinary people who forever changed the way we look at life. Although many people found these discoveries to bring a great revival to mankind, others rejected these new improvements and felt as if they were defying god. These years were full of discoveries, conflicts, and new visions that of the world. The age of reason brought on many changes to religious, political, scientific, and literary aspects of the eighteenth century. Ever since the beginning of time, religion has been the dominating source of reason. People have turned to prayer and spirituality for a sense of control and understanding in their lives. Not until the years of the age of reason was there an alternative proposed for a better method of interpreting things. This alternative method was science. Although scientific thought spread rapidly, religion was not forgotten. Religion controlled many things science could not. It gave people a sense of why they are here and why things occur. This understanding results in sanity and calmness. During the age of reason, people who kept religion flourishing were Ethan Allen, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, and Patrick Henry. In Thomas Paine’s The Crisis, No. 1, he uses vivid imagery and rhetorical techniques to persuade the audience into believing his point. â€Å"Even the expression is impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God.†(Paine). In Ethan Allen’s Reason only Oracle of Man, reason is taught through the eyes of an oracle, or someone whom God speaks to the people through. A religious revival that flourished around this point in history was called Deism. Deism beliefs differed in many ways than the traditional religions for it’s major concept was that God spoke through everyone, not only a particular chosen one. Franklin, Paine, and Jefferson all participated as active Deists, abandoning their previous religion from which they were raised. A key aspect that attracted many people to Deism was that its goal was to achieve goodness and prosperity throughout the world. Although this way of thinking seemed to have no faults, there was the share of those who rejected this idea. The age of reason also contributed a great literary works. Gaining more common sense, authors were able to use more abstract thinking in their writing and talk about truth rather then fantasy or fiction. Some of the great authors of this time include James Madison and Alexander Hamilton (the Federalist Papers), Franklin and Jefferson’s Autobiographies, and Michel Guillaume Jean de Crevecoeur (Letters from an American farmer). As literary works were at their peaks, poetry was on the duller, unoriginal side. It was often written in direct imitations of the British and had no thought or reason behind it. Racial segregation, discrimination, and degradation are no accidents in this nation's history. The loud tribal beat of pounding rap rhythm is no coincidence. They stem logically from the legacy the Founding Fathers bestowed upon contemporary America with regard to the treatment of African-Americans, particularly the black slave woman. This tragedy has left the country with a weak moral foundation. The Founding Fathers, in their conception of a more perfect union, drafted ideas that communicated the oppression they felt as slaves of Mother England. Ironically, nowhere in any of their documents did they address the issue of racial slavery. The Declaration of Independence from England was adopted as the country's most fundamental constitutional document. It was the definitive statement for the American policy of government, of the necessary conditions for the exercise of political power, and of the sovereignty of the people who establish the government. John Hancock, president of the Continental Congress and slave trader, described it as "the Ground & Foundation of a future government." James Madison, Father of the Constitution and slave owner, called it "the fundamental Act of Union of these States." "All men are created equal," and endowed by the Creator with the "unalienable Rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." They either meant that all men were created equal, that every man was entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, or they did not mean it at all. The Declaration of Independence was a white man's document that its author rarely applied to his own or any other slave. Thomas Jefferson suspected blacks were inferior. These suspicions, together with his prophecy that free blacks could not harmoniously co-exist with white men for centuries to come, are believed to be the primary reasons for his contradictory actions toward the issue of slavery. At the end of the eighteenth century, Jefferson fought the infamous Alien & Sedition Acts, which limited civil liberties. As president, he opposed the Federalist court, conspiracies to divide the union, and the economic plans of Alexander Hamilton. Throughout his life, Thomas Jefferson, hypocrite, slave holder, pondered the conflict between American freedom and American slavery. He bought and sold slaves; he advertised for fugitives; he ordered disciplinary lashes with a horse whip. Jefferson understood that he and his fellow slave holders benefited financially and culturally from the sweat of their black laborers. One could say he regarded slavery as a necessary evil. In 1787, he wrote the Northwest Ordinance which banned slavery in territory acquired from Great Britain following the American Revolution. However, later as a retired politician and ex-president, Jefferson refused to free his own slaves, counseled young white Virginia slave holders against voluntary emancipation of theirs, and even favored the expansion of slavery into the western territories.
